15-35% mileage increase

LOL, this is old news to me as I have been using acetone in my vehicles for years, and yes, it really does work. I get anywhere from 3 to 5 MPG better then if I do not use it. I have never had any problems with my vehicles. The proper mix for my X is 2 oz.

Couple of questions:

(1) What does the proper mix is 2 oz mean? Is that 2 oz in the total tank, 2 oz per 10 gal?

(2) How did you determine the 2 oz value?

Thanks .....

2 oz. means 2 onces per 20 gallons, or, 1 once per 10 gallons. I did not do any scientific formula to find the right mixture, but decided that 2 oz. would be the proper ratio to gasoline by experiences of others who used it before me. This has worked well for me. Just don't get it on your paint or you will looking at a new paint job.

Okay, you guys have me curious now. I know a couple of others are doing a test so I may not need to..... but since I have an Eddie Bauer trip computer console I should be able to test this fairly accurately. I could reset my gals used and avg mpg at the start of a test, do something like a 50 mile roundtrip - 25 miles each way (back and forth to offset wind/etc) - down an interstate with the cruise control on and note total gals used (computer goes in increments of .1, so it would read down to tenths of a gallon) and avg mpg. Then add the acetone and immediately redo the same test (to run in similar same day wind/weather conditions) and note the difference. If I end up with an couple of hours to kill tomorrow afternoon I'll try to do it and then report results.

edit it is crazy windy here today; if it's this windy tomorrow I'll wait until later to test it out. Even though I'd be driving a roundtrip I prefer to leave the most variables out I can and want to do it on a calm day.

The one thing I would take into consideration is that if you fill up before empty you can make the acetone mixture more than it should be. I would try to run it to almost empty if you are adding it every fill up.

How many miles do you keep your vehicles for?

Interesting.

or you could just add the right amount for the fuel you put in

OK dumb question but where can you get acetone and what does it look like.

You can get acetone at any hardware store or paint store or home supply store. Many drug stores also have it.

When you ask what does it look like, are you referring to the actual product or the packaging? If the product, its a clear colorless liquid; if the packaging, it varies.

It's a strong cleaner, I'd put it into something that can control spillage. It would not be good to pour it on the paint. Good luck,
Don

Actually if I had read the whole article I would have figured it out. Thanks anyway Al. One thing I do not agree with is that warm air is better then cold air.

Remember, they are referring to max mileage NOT HP.

I am going to test the acetone/gasoline blend this coming Wednesday on a 510 mile run to Atlanta.

I am going to use the 2 fl oz/10 gal gas blend. The fuel will be Amoco 89 octane. The computer tune will be one of Doug’s ( http://www.bamachips.com/ ) made for my truck on 89 gas. The acetone used is Klean Strip Acetone (http://www.nazdar.com/MSDS/distributed/wmbarr/Klean%20Strip%20Acetone%20(GAC18).pdf [ 100% pure ] ); it cost $4.50/qt at Home Depot. I have previous data on the mileage with this tune; best long run mileage was 28.4 MPG ( http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128827&highlight=computer+tune ). The speed and miles traveled will be GPS determined ( Garmin Street Pilot 2620 ).

The data will be reported when I return to Florida the following week after a dyno session with Doug in Birmingham on Saturday.

Eagerly awaiting your results, Al. Let us know when you get back.

That makes sense because the IAT would tell the computer to compensate by injecting less fuel per cylinder because there are less air molecules to react with the burning hydrocarbons.

Acetone will not eat any plastic??unless it is paper thin...

As a furniture refinisher I used Acetone daily and soak my hands in it daily. and yes it does evaporate quickly, but doesn;t harm my hands unless an open cut is present of course...
it doe evaporate quickly when sitting alone but when mixed into 20 gallons of Gasoline I am hard pressed to think much if any would disappear...

Just opinions of course..

I meant that in the concentration it would be, there should be no trouble with it.

I used to work in paint and body, and a few of the guys swore that splashing some acetone on a cut would make it heal up about twice as fast.

evaporation rate may not be an issue, as everything I've looked at so far indicates acetone has a higher flashpoint than gasoline, (by 20 degrees) so it should stay in solution.

ken.
