Has anyone tried the acetone in combination with any other fuel additive?

I have used Fuel Power = FP ( http://lubecontrol.com/fuel.htm ) with good results for quite some time. During my recent acetone/fuel trails I did not use the FP. Today I added the acetone at 2 fl oz/5 gal gas in addition to 2 fl oz FP/5 gal gas.

We shall soon see what happens .....

Al, my first full tank had LC in it before I added Acetone. results were same as prior to addition of Acetone.

Quite frankly, I got better results on my 3rd tank of Acetone only gas (23.2mpg(3.2 mpg better than any previous best!)) than any tank with LC AND LC costs a lot more.

I have enough LC left to include several tanks of both additives in my test critieria.

Acetone *reduces* the MPG on both my Explorers

I have a 1991 EB 4x4 and a 1998 XLT 2x4, and adding 2-3 ozs of acetone to every 10 gals of gasoline actually REDUCED my average by 3-5 mpg in both vehicles. YMMV....

No theories I'm afraid

I have no ideas or theories as to the "why", just real observations when I used it. The acetone did help my felt acceleration however, but with the loss of fuel economy I cannot see using it to be a benefit for me. I'm going to miss that kick in the gas-pedal for sure - I noticed the drop-off in power this morning during my traffic commute. Put the accelerator down and it didn't smoothly pull from the bottom up like it had the last couple of tank-fulls with the added acetone - had to "kick it down" to downshift for the lane change. Just like old times! Boo hoo. I'm glad it apparently works for many folks, but my results are poor to say the least.

Is it possible since you "felt" power increase using the acetone, that you drove more aggressively and therefore lost mileage?

I never felt anything when using acetone.

I'm consistent in my driving habits, and the extra acceleration ability enabled me to pull a higher gear than otherwise. I didn't have to push the pedal down until it downshifted and run the same situation at a higher RPM. My wife drives the '98 XLT 2x4, so between the two of us experiencing similar MPG loss results was kind of like a double-blind. Maybe. Back to the '91 EB 4x4: I've discontinued the experiment with acetone and have noticed the same, old need-to-downshift when merging or passing - but I'm getting my old 15-17 avg MPG instead of 11.5-13.5!

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I personally, based on the chemistry involved, don't see how the acetone could cause a reduction in mileage, I could easily see how, however, it could not boost mileage.

In all of my trials to date, I have seen a slight boost in mileage.

Has anyone else noticed a drop in mileage? Thoughts on why the mileage dropped??????

Al, my bad. It is Fuel Power from Lube Control. I was at the office and in a hurry.

5th Tank
14 gal Union 76 92 octane/5.5 gal Arco 92 octane mixed
2oz/10gal Acetone, no Fuel Power.
318 miles first 50 miles were city the rest was freeway (70mph)
didn't get an accurate average moving speed (GPS said 70 but it couldn't be with 50 miles city driving, I'd have top be going 85mph or more on the freeway to make up for it)
16.039gal
19.82mpg (only .13MPG less than my pre-Acetone best!)
About 2 mpg better than I expected from this combination of driving.

anyone who uses acetone or toluene in a daily driver is a moron..i work with acetone every day of my life. i work with fibreglass and we use it to clean sticky ass resin up. does anyone realize that carburetors or fuel injection have RUBBER and PLASTIC parts on them? what are fuel ines made of? huh? think about it....acetone will eat through almost anything given it has enough time to do so...adding even an incorrect mixture of acetone to your gas will probably over time eat crap up!...take a piece of plastic and stick it in acetone...what happens?..exactly....it melted didnt it! i personally wouldnt do it..anyone who does it...good luck in the long run with your motor!

Toluene is fine, thats what the blenders use to regulate Octane in everyday pump gas.
As for Acetone, have not tried it yet, have no need to do so
Am getting 36 MPG, no worrys

Mr. Scientist, the fuel system consists of high-grade rubbers that acetone will not deteriorate. Cheap plastics are affected by it also.

Fully understand, but as I said, am getting 36 MPG without acetone, so no need to give it a try.
(ever soak weed in acetone? for a few hrs, thats how hash is made)

For those running acetone, where'd you buy your gas? Ethanol in gas decreases the potentcy of acetone.

thats a hillbilly way of making hash..and yes i have tried it...but u need to crsuh up all the water leaves, stems, and maybe some bud itself...soak it in acetone and also filter it or let it evaporate....then u gotta scrpae the damn **** up....a kitchen freezer works better..!
