After noticing the swelling of the o rings when immersed in 100% acetone for 1 week, I decided to see how they would look after 1 hour in 100% acetone. I also immersed an o ring in 100% gasoline ( Amoco 89 ) for 1 hour.
The picture below shows ( from left to right ): 100% gas immersed, new, 100% acetone immersed.
The swelling after 1 hour appears to be the same as the 1 week sample. The 1 hour gas soak appears to be swollen, though not nearly as much as the acetone.
The elasticity of the o rings appears to be the same whether acetone swollen, immersed in gas, or brand new.
Next I shall immerse the o rings in the usage mix ( 2 oz acetone/10 gal gas ) and take a look at 1 hour and then leave for a week.
