180 degree thermostats

I just installed a 180 degree thermostat and boy does it work wonders.

Around here in Seattle, we ahve ahd a few days in the summer where the temperature was at or above 90 and I always run the AC during these times. With the 195 t-stat installed I noticed (using my AutoX ray to view the parameter) that the coolanbt temp rose to 207 degrees. When I swapped in a 180 degree t-stat the temperture barely got to 190 degrees.

Does anyone see a problem with this setup if I run it like this for awhile.

I do have an SCT xcal2 and have noticed that my mileage has dropped some possibly due to the temp being below 195 degrees and the program adds fuel to increse temp.

Any thoughts welcome.

Also just wanted to add that I have bumped up timing in all three RPM ranges 0-2000 RPM, 2000-4000 RPM and 4000-8000 RPM. I have added 4 degrees to 0-2000, 2 degrees to 2000-4000, and 2 degrees to 4000-8000 RPM. These setting are in addition to Bamachips tune for 92 Performance. I noticed a huge increase in the seat of the pant feel from Idle to 5000 RPM.
 






The lower temperature keeps the PCM in open loop. It will go into closed loop when it reaches 195 degrees. The PCM will use a program to compensate for the lower temperature instead of allowing the sensors to adjust everything properly. This chart is in # 25 in my list of useful threads:

You can go with a 160 or 180 thermostat. Interestingly enough, have your tuner lower the degrees which the vehicle goes into closed loop mode. I do this all the time for my customers which run lower thermostats. Once you do this the transition from open to closed loop will occur sooner and everything will be well. There is adjustability for your application, especially if you have a tuner.-j
