I recently purchase a used 1992 Ford Explorer Automatic with a 4x4 manual transmission. I don't use this car as a primary vehicle (have a 2003 Ford Ranger as backup), but I am wondering about a few issues. I took it over to a local Ford dealership and had a 115,000 mile service done on it and they said everything looked good.
1. When I start it up in the morning, it doesn't shift out of first. I usually put it in 2 and drive at about 35 miles an hour until the temperature gauge shows that its getting warm. Is there a problem with driving in 2? Will I ruin the transmission that way? After it gets warmed up, it shifts great.
2. Even though I have the fan off, there is still air blowing into the cab. I was just wondering if there is a simple fix to this.
3. I want to bolt through a mount on the inside of the cab through the transmission hump. I know there is a lot down there and was wondering if its even possible to bolt it down to the undercarriage without damaging something vital.
Like I said, these are very minor issues to me, but I want to make sure this vehicle lasts for awhile and want to know what I should be doing and what I shouldn't be doing. You can email me at firephoto@sbcglobal.net or just respond hereif you have all the answers or just one of them. Thanks in advance.
