Hi All,

I bought a 1992 XLT about a month ago...been running great, I really like it (my first truck!).

Today, I go out to start it, and one click and nothing...I mean no whir, no other clicking, nothing...hmmm I say.

I check the terminals, clean 'em up...1 click, then nothing, not even an interior light. Trust me, the battery terminals and posts are ultra-clean, and I see no cracks in the wires to the starter. Check voltage on battery...12.72 volts.

So, I pull the battery out of my 1990 Mustang (12.51 volts), which starts fine, put in the XLT, and...yep the old 1 click, no light action...again, hmmm.

Put the battery that was in the XLT in the Mustang, and the Mustang starts perfect...I say more than hmmm.

Any thoughts or known issues with this year/model before I call the shop.

Thanks in advance.

Vic

C'mon folks...need some help...throw me a bone

It could be your battery cable. There have been some issues with corrosion inside of the connection between the cable and the terminal on older X's (my old '92 had the problem). You can check it by looking at the resistance in the cable. If the resistance of the cable is more than a few ohms, you have a bad cable.

Thanks Jeff, appreciate it.

Well, that was the problem...positive battery cable...now, where can I get a new one, other than Ford (NAPA, etc.)...don't have any AutoZone's nearby, just Pep Boy's, NAPA, and CarQuest.

Thanks for your help!!

Glad you found the problem. That is one of the easier fixes.... You should find the cables at NAPA or Carquest.
