1993 explorer intake

I have been told I can replace my metal upper intake with a plastic one from a 95 or newer explorer direct bolt on. Is this true and are there any power advantages for a mod like this. I hear there is a heat factor where plastics don't jold or absorb the heat leading to a colder air charge

93 shouldn't have egr and 95 will..so it will be slightly different. .why are you wanting to do this?? No power or any real advantages..you could port your metal one but your honesty wasting time doing either..not worth the time

Well later 93 will have EGR, earlier 93 will not

Anyway, I have never heard that a 95 upper will bolt on. Where did you hear that? That's interesting. I always thought because of the head differences (95TM vs. 90 casting) it wouldn't bolt up (?) but I'm game for new info.

I'm pretty sure others have bolted the stock intake manifold on 95 tm heads, so I don't think swapping the plenum is out of the question. That said, you shouldn't do it. There is zero advantage, and the plastic Explorer version is known to warp. If anything, the 95+ explorers should put the aluminum ones on.

There is no difference in the lower intake.you can run any head with any lower..only difference in upper is plastic and egr...

No gains for the plastic,its spose to help keep iat down slightly..

Ps..only difference in a 90tm and true 95tm head is the combustion chamber. .rest of head is identical

The only problem I see is on out 2000 (and presumably any 95+) is that the fuel rails are separate, while on a first gen, the fuel rail is an intake spacer. Whether or not that will cause clearance issues, I don't know.

On the ohv?? Ive never seen that before.ive work on many up till 98.i have a 96 motor sitn in my shop that doesn't have that

There is always a great possibility I'm totally wrong. I work on a lot of things, things get jumbled in my head sometimes. :bdrunk:

Hmm yea im not sayn they dont just never seen one up till 98..i know the sohc and 5.0 do..if they do id like to see the lower intake for sure..id love to be able to get my charger down a little lower or be able to do custom fuel rails

Ok, confirmed our 2000 has a fuel rail just like every other ohv. Major fail on my part.:roll: I was just tossing out ideas, but it seems there is no reason at all the plastic and aluminum intakes are not compatible. Still, I advise to stay way from the plastic, the aluminum intake is better.
