1993 XLT 4x4 issue.

hello everyone im not to sure if im posting in the right place or not but i have a problem... i just bought my 1993 ford explorer XLT 5speed on aug. 3rd, since then i had to replace alota stuff to make it road worthy... but one of my last issues with it is the 4wheel drive... if i push the clutch in while its in neutral and push on the 4x4 switch it does not turn on or engage.... i changed the switch in the dash cluster, still nothing but i know its getting some type of power because when i turn my headlights on the words "4X4 and LowRange" light up but the little circles dont... i paid $400 for it and before i bought it the truck sat for 3 1/2 years so if anyone could tell me what to check and/or how to that would be greatly appreciated thanks again heres a couple of pics....

Try the repair first. It is very easy and very cheap and would take the same amount of time as replacing the unit.
