I have an interesting problem going on with the front windshield wipers. They don't work! You can actuate the windshield washer function and the windshield wipers work. The fact that the wipers work when using the washer tells me the motors have to be good. Has anyone experienced this yet?

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the Aerostar section. Check the wiper switch, and the fuse. The next step is to check the time delay control module, but leave that for last. I would suspect the switch first.

switch repair

any hints on getting at the switch on a 92 aerostar...looks like the dash would need to come apart..isn't that quite a big job or maybe not...

switch repair

I don't have a repair manual for this vehicle...I attempted to get to the switch, but decided I didn't quite know how to get at it...I did consider trying to install another switch and splicing in by the wiper motor, but replacing the switch is probably a better idea. I also have a newer areostar but the wiper switch is different setup...Guess I should really get a repair manual...I also have turn signal issues..once again different setup than the newer "parts" van that I have.

wiper switch

:us:
my van is titled as a 93..after some looking around, the replacement wiper switch for a 93 is for the column..mine is in the dash like a 91 calls for...also my automatic shifter is on the floor not the column like I read it would be for an earlier model..after reading this info I went and looked at my title to make sure it is a 93....

I did find switch on ebay and the one like mine is listed for 89-91...another was listed 86-91 and yet another was listed as 91 [this one actually shows the dash plate which is just like mine]

switches I find online are listed 92 and up...they go on the column...

I did press my switch for wash and the wipers did work one time..doesn't work now when you push wash...

switch probably needs replacing..I need to find a starting point to get it out of the dash...

ebay was the only place I can find wiper switch that look like mine...

checked mfg date

:us:
amazing what a little knowledge will do..mfg date 6-91...
thanks....

thanks for input

:us:
I was just going by the title for the van...oops!! I just rechecked my title and I found the one for the 91..I actually have 2 vans...the 93 has a bad transmission and been using it for parts...I did find a used trans [A4LD] but never got around to install..
With the price of insurance I probably won't have but one vehicle at a time on the road....
Any ideas on install new wiper switch in the "91" or should I look for repair manual. I really don't want to just pry on the dash or take a whole bunch of part off the dash that don't need to be removed.
thanks for your input....

pdf file

:us:
yes...the file had all the info necessary..it also had info for Bronco II and Ranger..this is a great file for anyone to check electric circuits on wiper motor and washer pump..it also includes info for the rear window wiper..
At first it talks of the switch being on the column, but I guess that is for the Bronco II and the Ranger..down in the text it does talk about aerostar switch being in the dash and general idea on how to remove it..
the file also covers the removal of wiper motor..front and rear..
pretty much covers all of the wiper system thru 1991..

thanks...

I located a switch on ebay [used] that has interval..price is $50 + 10 for ship..seems kinda high but none available I can locate..there are some without interval. but until I look closer I don't know if the plug would work...the pictures in the pdf file make it look like it may not work..

I have looked around online lots of places..they all list the newer one for on the column. I will keep looking..once I get it out of the dash, I'm sure I can at least wire in temp switch for at least one speed. the washer button still works so I would think it is getting power..with the info in the pdf I'll be able to properly check the switch.
been using rainx but working wipers would be nice.

I did see some good pictures on ebay of the switch..one picture even showed the part of the dash panel with the switch still in it , along with headlight switch.

I saw the one picture w/o interval..didn't see the othe one...I just checked it out and going to order right now...
thanks...
I don't know how to post pictures and links on this site yet. I did copy a couple of pictures from ebay..don't know how to post them..I'll learn..a picture sometimes sure helps..helps others too I'm sure..

thanks again..going to order the switch.

Right click onto the photo in the listing, then click properties. You will see the link which ends with JPG. Highlight this link, and select copy. Go to this site, then type. Paste the link in the area which says link with a photo. Which switch are you going to buy? Did you test the old switch with a meter or a continuity tester?

the new one 24.99 + 6.35 mail..it has the interval like mine...
haven't tested mine yet because I didn't know how to get to it..I think I can now..probably be wise to take it out tomorrow first and check..sometimes a bad connection you know..they have several for sale..

it did work by pressing wash button once the other day but not again.

thanks for the info on copy and posting..I can follow that..Once I do it a couple of time I will remember..you probably do it a lot..thanks..
