I have a 94 ford ranger 4.0liter 5speed manual transmission that i'm trying to swap. I ordered a re-man and when it arrived it's upper casing is different than my original. The original has a plug for the neutral safety switch and one for the reverse lights. The new one does not, it only has one for the reverse lights. Will this transmission still work in my truck? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

yes it should work fine
Are you swapping 5 speed for 5 speed? what year to what year?
The 3 position clutch switch can take over starting duties for the old neutral safety.....

Yes 5 soeed for 5speed the years I'm not positive about (only the re-man). The old one is the original trans. Backstory... I'm an army vet who purchased the vehicle when the greatest man i knew wwii hero grandfather passed. I'm not nostalgic but this truck means something . If he was alive i wouldnt ask because he would have the answer! I paid for the re-man but hit a snag when i saw it and i was raised that the sensor was put in from factory for a reason, so if it was there before kinda thing. Thank you so much for your reply . I appreciate you and hopefully it works out. Thank you again

okay so there are several versions of the 5 speed transmissions used in these trucks, and some of the early ones had a neutral switch in them. Later it was removed, because the clutch switch already ensures that you cannot start the truck unless it is in N, so the trans N switch is redundant

Does your Neutral switch have one wire or two?

I understand about nostalgia, I have many of my grandfathers tools and I wish he was still around to meet my son :) Keep that truck forever if you can!
