1998 Explorer AC issues

1998 Ford Explorer 6 cyl. I have ac problems. It only worked on high. I changed the blower motor resistor. It worked for a day. Then I saw a gray vac line broke from the ac actuator on top of motor. I thought that vac line went down to the black bulb but it does not go there. It goes back up under the ac blower motor. Any ideas where it goes?

I only have ac when I put it on defrost and it goes thru the defrost & floor. It only at higher speeds.

Following. My AC doesn't work currently. The same vacuum line on my truck is broke in almost the same spot. I also think my door it stuck on heat. My compressor works when charged but leaks.

Wonder If both vehicles had same problems if not really similar.

Yea...I was hoping for some insight before I go under the dash board. I saw that there is an actuator under the glove box, but I don't know where that vac line goes?!

Heater control valve vacuum line broken. May be able to separate the short piece from the rubber elbow and reuse the line.
Pull the elbow straight up off the heater control valve and see if the line comes off.

Yea I tried. It keeps breaking. It's brittle.

Auto parts stores sell universal replacement plastic line (in various diameters) and elbow assortments. I agree that's your heater control valve, but I don't see why that line being broken would prevent your A/C from working. I believe the heater control valve position is CLOSED when no vacuum is applied. However, a vacuum leak will effect the A/C air flow, directing all the air to come out the defroster vents.

If there is an inch or more of line still on the elbow, you can probably just repair the break by slipping a short piece of rubber vacuum hose (of the appropriate diameter) over the broken ends, though that would probably just be a temporary fix.

The blend door actuator is electrically operated, not vacuum. If it has failed (or if the blend door pivot has broken) it could cause heated air to be mixed with the cooled air.

The other vacuum lines under the dash control the various air direction flows via multiple vacuum motors.

Is your A/C compressor clutch cycling normally? It should kick in/out about every 7-8 seconds.

Yes. It is cycling normally. The air is cold coming out of defrost.

The air will blow out of the defrost until the vacuum problem is fixed. refer back to the " no ac from vents" thread.

As I told you, a broken vacuum line will cause the air to blow out of the DEFROSTER vents. So that's your issue.
