I am wondering if there is a manual transmission and transfer case that I can swap in. I am looking give my explorer a lot more ponies under the hood but want to make sure if there is a way to build a drive line that can take the extra horse power and torque.
My Explorer now has a 4.0 OHV, pushrod motor., 4 speed Manual trans with overdrive, 4WD, with automatic change.

Find a 4.2 4x4 5spd f-150 with a manual t- case, the tranny will bolt up to a 5.0 ,then you need a custom tune to make your trucks computer happy with a manual,

is rick going to a 5.0 or a 4.6 V8 ?
.
never really paid attention; which bolt pattern does the 4.2 have ?

Its based on the 3.8 and shares the same bolt pattern as the small block fords

thanks !
.
one of the early 4.6's (1992 model) also had the 5.0 bolt pattern, IIRC.

Oh yea I've seen plenty of crown vics with the old bell pattern, I love those types of interchangaeability
