1998 Explorer Eddie Bauer
Hi all!! I'm new to this site, I've been reading through alot of threads concerning PART/PCM problems but I had a couple of Questions myself.

About two months ago my 98 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition 4.0L V6 started acting up. Every once in awhile it wouldn't start, it would crank but not fire up, so if i let it sit for awhile generally it would work. Eventually it started getting worse so i decided to take it to my local mechanic. He hooked it up to the code reader and it through a P1260 code. He told me that that means the the car thinks it's being stolen or a Theft problem. But when he started it, it fired right up and ran for about another week. Now it won't start at all and I don't know what to do.

I know, from reading other threads and doing some research, that when there something wrong with the PCM or PATS system usually the "theft light" will start flashing rapidly or glow solid when I try to start the car. But it doesn't everything looks fine, when i put key in the ignition and turn it to the ON position the theft comes on for 3 seconds and then goes out. Isn't that the correct procedure for my car? I have two keys for my explorer and have tried them both and they both do the same thing but still wont fire up.

I'm clueless to what to do. I know i can take tow it to the Ford dealer but the tow is going to be expensive and so is taking it to Ford.

My question is if the transceiver in the steering column has gone bad could it still tell the PCM that the key is the correct key put still not let the car start? Or is it PCM that is going bad?

i think there will be one relais bad ..
hopefully in the main fuse box if they are all good...

the pats box could be faulty..

I checked all the fuses and they look good. and I will have to look into the PATS box I'm not sure where that it is?

Thanks I've been reading through here for days and just can't find anything that's helpful for my situation. My original post explained everything going on. Is there anyway you can help?

not fuse ... check relais...

I know which relay is the PCM relay but I'm not sure how to test it. Any suggestions?
