I am thinking about installing some new driving lights (mounted to the bumper and pointed thru the bumper cover) and it looks like the best way to do this would be to remove the bumper cover. How difficult is it to remove/reinstall the bumper cover? It didn't look too difficult, but is there's anything that I need to be cautious of?

Also, while I'm at it, I was wondering if there are any aftermarket replacement bumper covers that look better than the stock one. I love my Explorer, but I'm not crazy about the dull grey/black plastic bumper cover. Is there anything that can be done to improve its looks? Is the plastic too soft to paint body color without cracking? Thanks for your help.

im not sure which bumper cover you have but i found its 10 times easier to remove the whole bumper first (4 nuts) then take the cover off as oppsed to trying to remove it on the vehicle... just FYI

EDIT: whoa i just realized how old this thread was, haha its that new feature where it shows related threads at the bottom that gets me :p

I live in Rochester, New York-tons of salt on the road in the winter. My bumper and step plates are rusting as well as the under body, which was undercoated new. How can I get the plastic off of the bumper to sand and paint. Which primer pain is the best to use.
Thanks,

four 10mm nuts gets the bumper off the truck. After that it is a series of plastic push pins and 7mm screws to remove the plastic from the rebar.
