Wait until you have at least 25k before you goto synthetic.

my car has 78k on it almost...?

Ya, I sort of wondered about that. They way you said it made it sound like you only had 3k.

Use the same weight you are using now. If you don't know, look in your manual. Last page I think.

do i need a good oil filter or what, i think 5w-30

I believe you use a regular oil filter. When you buy it, ask someone to help you.

don't quote me on this but I think that it's FA-1 Motorcraft filter...... (the biggest they have) and just use regular....... as far as oil....... I'd put 10W30...... for any working temps.

I use a fram oil filter just something i picked up at autozone. Usually they have books that tell you what filter to use. when you do the change remember to put new oil on the rubber filter gasket on the new filter before you put it on. It will make it much easier to remove next oil change.

Oil filters are extremely important; use good ones. I use a Mobil 1 filter with Mobil 1 10w30 in my truck.

Good luck....

i just use a regular purolator filter with mobil 1 5w-30.

Sorry, I had too. ;) It's an FL-1A. (we're a Ford family for the most part, I've put that filter on a million times) It's a real good filter even though it is OEM.

I'd use a synthetic/conventional blend for now. 5W-30 if you don't have any major oil leaks, 10-30 if you do. I would then switch to full synthetic on the next change or the one after that.

I use the regular Ford/motorcraft filters. Dre, you were almost right, the Motorcraft filter is FL-1A.

Ooops, little late with that information wasn't I.

Has anyone used the K & N oil filter?

Dead Link Removed

Opinions, please.....

Jim thank you for that site
I will never put a fram filter into my car again. But i have one in there now. :(

I run 10w-30 Mobil 1 in my x all year round. The reason i run 10w-30 is it does not get thick when it gets cold out like dino oil! I also run mobil 1 oil filter!

a case of mobil 1 is about 25.00 and the filter is 10. I will never go back to dino oil!

FL 1A it is then........ I've done it many times but never really remember these things...... use Motorcraft cause it's designed to be used in Ford. I think,

Penzoil or Quaker 10W30 all the time... every 3000 miles.

3000 miles in 5 months!! You get off easy... I've put 12000 miles in 4 months...

I use Mobil 1 5w-30. Go to Wal mart and get a 5 quart jug instead of buying a case of 6. The jug is $18 and the case of 6 is $27. Thats $9 for that last quart...

I have been using Fram filters but now I'm going to switch based on that report...

Fram filters aren't really high-end, if I can put it that way...Maybe a Fram Double Guard is ok...but I don't use Fram.

Also, the Ford OEM Motorcraft FL-1/FL-1A oil filters are supposedly a re-badged Purolator Pure One filter. It's supposed to be a pretty good filter.

I don't know anything about the K&N oil filter.

Jas84 if you do go synthetic, I suggest you use an engine flush to get all the junk out of your crankcase. I did it, and no harm. I bought a donor oil filter, just any old filter will do (I used a Penske PN8A), install that filter, top off the oil (you will lose some when removing the old oil filter), dump in the flush, let it run, then remove the Penske filter, then drain all the old oil out, then install new filter, and add new oil. That will flush it good. The idea of using the Penske filter for only 5 minutes and then throwing it away was to use a NEW and CLEAN oil filter to catch all the crap the engine flush released.
