Called the local Ford dealer to pick up a set of Motocraft Plug wires and he said it was $197....and he said that was pretty much the going rate for explorer wires...he also asked if my 7 and 8 plugs were shielded and did I have round or square exhaust manifolds......

Anyway I notice some websites sell a set of Motocraft wires for around $50..are these the same? and the Motocraft spark plugs are $8 each at the dealer.....

Help I don't want to spend $300 just to change plugs and wires...if I don't have to...

I just replaced plugs and wires on my '96 (V6) and it cost $45 for the wires and about $8 a plug but they are platinum tipped and last 100K miles (supposedly). Do you have the V8?

I bought my parts from Friendly Ford in Roselle.

E-mail Torrie and see what he can do for you. He's also a sponsor of the site. I and many others here have bought a lot of stuff from Torrie for far less than the local dealer price and with much better customer service.

He only carries plug wires for V6 OHV...I have a V6 SOHC....

Plugs are 4.25 though....better than $8.....

I called Murray Auto parts

and they said they had a lhd and a rhd set for about $60 each..but they did not know what that meant....do you have to buy both sets?

Never straight forward....

This tells me right there this "guy" doesn't have a clue. There are no 7 or 8 plugs on a V6

Why not just go down to your local aftermarket parts shop and get some good quality wires, and then your local mega-mart for the plugs. They usually have the best price, and they carry the premium plugs as well. The dealership almost always marks their stuff up. I even found the motocraft mercon V for about 1/2 the price of the dealer, at my local specialty parts shop when I did my tranny service. He also had the filter for less, and the gasket. Just shows to go that it pays to shop around...
