I recently found a gentlemen selling a 2000 5.0 AWD with 130000 miles on it. The rig is real clean in and out and the engine runs well. The problem is the tranny only has reverse. There's nothing with the forward drive gears. Is there something it could be other than needing a tranny rebuild? Also, the guy wants 2 grand which I think is high with the tranny problem. I was thinking more like a grand. What do you guys think it's worth needing a tranny?

One grand, if he's lucky. It's still a 12 year old gas hog with rising fuel prices abound. :)

I hear you there Joe, lol. But I love that V8........

Want one?

Not quite yet... :D

It might eat some fuel, but you will not have a high monthly payment, or need to pay for higher, full coverage insurance. I also believe annual property taxes will be less, so having the v8 explorer is not always a bad economic decision. ;)

We can choose how far we drive, but a payment always comes around.

If you can get it road worthy for 4k or less it will be a good payoff in the long run. And you will do your part keeping the world green. One less car in the junk yard, one less car to manufacture. I think it has another 130k miles in it.

My thinking exactly.

I still have the 97 AWD and it's still running strong but I'm closing in on 200,000. And I get 16 to 17 MPG in the summer. The wife has a Sportage with a 6 cylinder and it doesn't do a lot better than that. Plus there's no comparison in the two vehicles. lol.... There hasn't been a day in three winters that I haven't been able to go anywhere I wanted. And I live in Northern NYS.

I'm thinking if I do get the other one I'll opt for a rebuild over a used tranny. I was just hoping that it might be something else. The cheapest I can find a used one here is $950.00 and it has 95,000 on it. And I'm betting it's another $600 or better to have it put in.

Just out of curiosity, are the trannys in the 97 and the 2000 interchangable?

give him $500, put it to him that the cost of the repair is more than the vehicle is worth, it's basically scrap, and you're doing him a favour by giving him more than scrap value,

However, if he pulls out a gun, I'm not responsible for what ensues... but, that would be my starting point and then work upwards...

I purchased my 1st x eb last january & am in love with it It's a 2000 wedgewood blue 5.0 2wd w/156,000 mi. and it now looks & drives like new. The car & the glass-pac turns a lot of heads. The console computer says I'm getting 17.3mpg in the city. No hiway yet. If I knew how to post pics, I would. I paid $4000.to the original owner.

This one is also the wedgewood blue.

He's had this thing on craigslist for over a month and still thinks it's worth what he's asking. There's not a prayer I'm giving him 2 grand, especially not being able to drive it and see how everything else is working.
