I bought my Explorer used a couple of years ago and, as far as I know, the alarm is stock. When I first bought it, for the first couple of months it made no sound when I pressed the "lock" button on the key-ring remote. Then it started to chirp--as it should have--when I would press it. It continued operating in that manner until a couple of weeks ago and now it no longer chirps, though upon pressing it again the horn sounds. How do I reactivate the chirp?

I have a 2000 limited, and i've never heard it "chirp" when using the keyfob, but the horn does sound when pressing the lock button 2x

i got 2000 mounty same issue i have the theft light on dash blinking but no chirp or anything to let me know except when doors lock the horn beeps

Strange, huh? As I mentioned, mine didn't chirp either for awhile after we bought it, but then one day I pressed the button and it did. Then it went back to the way it started out with no sound unless I press it twice and the horn sounds.

chirp = aftermarket, there are no stock alarm systems in explorers, only the keyless horn thing...

Okay, but the question still is, how do I make it work again? I really couldn't care less whether it's stock or aftermarket; all I know is that it didn't work at first, then it did, and now it doesn't.

Panzer,
I will trade you my "chirp" for your lack of "chirp". I am trying to silence the "chirp" without any luck. If I push the keyfob once I get a chirp, twice I get the horn. Not trying to hijack your thread but if anyone knows how to silence the "chirp" please send me a PM.

Thanks
