A couple of days ago, my 2000 Explorer Limited started having issues when shifting from 1st to 2nd. All other shifts seem to be okay. Well - it has 128k miles on it, so I had the transmission filter changed, which included a 'pan drop' (but not complete flush of transmission fluid). I found this link:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1279051&postcount=15, but am unsure of what I'm reading about it. I'm sure that I'll take it to the dealer for repair, but wanted to understand more about what I'm facing here. I also read a lot of my Ford Service Manual and it sounds like the PCM (powertrain control module) controls all the shifting, along with the TCS (transmission control system). I read that perhaps resetting (flashing the EEPROM) the PCM can be done, but I have no real idea of what I'm doing there.

I'm looking for recommendations as to how to proceed with this. Any ideas?

Also, if anyone can simplify this into something I can understand, that'd be great.

This vehicle has a lot of miles on it, but it has been absolutely great since we bought it new. I really want to keep it for awhile longer. So - any help would be appreciated. TIA.

No. I wouldn't know how to do that, so is that something I should ask the dealer (Service dept.)? Is that something they can do without totally rebuilding the transmission? (It's been about 35-40 years since I knew anyone that did that, so I can't remember that far back). I know very little about transmission repair.
