Hi all...this is my first post so I hope its ok. My question is this. When I put my Explorer in reverse and back out of my garage or actually anywhere...there is a squeaking sound. It almost sounds like a brake to me but it only does it in reverse. Any ideas....Looking forward to some answers...Thanks...

Upper and lower U joints are new. It almost sounds like the brakes. Can't tell if its coming from the back or front....altho...I think if it was coming from the back the squeak wouldn't be so prevelent. Like I say...it only does it in reverse.

2000 Ford Explorer

Hey everyone.....got a question to ask....I have a few small drops of oil on the garage floor that have been appearing. There's 187,000 miles on this vehicle. Someone mentioned...blown head gasket. There is no milky residue on the dipstick or the oil cap. No white exhaust from tailpipe. The gauge inside my vehicle has never risen above the point that its usually at to cause me to think the engine is overheating. I did have to put more coolant in the reservior but I didn't think it was to low. Can someone give me some ideas on whatelse to look for if this is a blown head gasket and is there some sort of sealant to use to repair it. With this many miles on the vehicle I don't want to spend to much money for repairs.

Thanks...I'll be waiting for a response

Is it for sure motor oil you see on the garage floor? If so It could be a leaky valve cover gasket or oil pan gasket, rear main seal. Could also be the o-ring on the oil filter went bad. There is a number of ways oil can get out of the engine without it being a blown head gasket. Whoever said that is probably someone you shouldn't take automotive repair advise from anymore.

A majority of the time a blown head gasket goes hand in hand with over heating. There are a number of other problems you would experience with a blown head gasket. Loss of power, poor mpg, hard starting ect....

I thought about the oil filter also and took it in for an oil change and it still does it. There is no loss of power..poor gas mileage or hard starting. Will check out the possiblity of oil pan gasket, or a leaky valve cover gasket. Am I right in assuming that the temp. gauge on the dash would rise?

I just found out that oil leak is the valve cover gasket. How long can something like that go on before a new gasket is put in....

As long as you need, as long as the oil level is monitored.

Ok then...thanks for your reply. I've been checking the oil level everyday and its good to go.....
