Just recently, My 2000 Ford Explorer Sport has been acting up. Sometimes when I turn the key to start the car it takes a long time to start and occasionally sounds like it is about to just quit. Other times it starts right up.

Once it starts, it runs fine and I have no problems.

I recently replaced the battery, starter, and fuel filter. I also replaced the alternator just a year ago.

I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key to just the power position.

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy.

Thanks so much.

Sounds like the cars idling low.

Check the air filter, mass air flow, idle air control and for any air leaks.

what engine is it? I just picked up a 2000 sport OHV and the EGR valve on the driver's side exhaust manifold has rusted right off.. that caused hard starting and a crappy idle... if you've got the check engine light on, get your codes read
