2000 explorer sport
Hi this is my 1st time on this forum! I bought a 2000 explorer sport with the 4.0 v6 soch engine . I got it for a steal! Great condition, but noisy engine. To me sounded like the timming chain. No prob I thought! I replaced the chains on the front and then realized that there is a chain on the back by fire wall! Does any one know if this can be done without pulling the engine !?! Thanks any other info about this engine would be appreciated ! Thanks.

must pull the engine

Normally, you must pull the engine in order to replace the rear timing chain or guide because the jackshaft rear sprocket retaining bolt and guide mounting bolt are located under the transmission bellhousing. One member was able to swap the rear cassette by removing the transmission instead of the engine but it is difficult to replace the cassette while working in the restricted access area under the vehicle.
