A friend of mine has a 2001 Ex Sport (Bone Stock). The mileage had fallen way off, down to about 8-10 Mpg. He took it to the dealer this week, and they (the dealer) found a TSB (Sorry, I don't know the number) about reprogramming the vehicle computer. Apparently there are a number of computers out there that were programmed incorrectly from the supplier. The dealer was able to reprogram the computer, per the TSB, and now the economy is approaching 20 mpg!! Don't know if this has been posted before. I did a search and didn't come up with any hits, so I posted. Hope this helps you newer Ex owners:)

yeah thnaks alot! im just afraid to ask my dealer about it bc he might tell me he can do it, not do it, and still charge an arm and leg ( no offense to you dealer guys(gals))

Do you think that could be the problem on my '95 also? I get a constant 10-11MPG.

I stay away from any PCM reprogramming at this time as my 97 Sport w/SOHC presently has no REV or SPEED limiter (Factory Boo-Boo).

Arm and a Leg

2k1 Exsport,

The dealer did the reprogram under the warranty.. no charge.:)

AS for a '95, dunno, guess you could ask, that's usually free, but I'll bet the reprogram will cost, since you're out of warranty. Have you done the throttle body clean, changed plugs and wires lately, or had the O2 sensors checked? These things also impact fuel economy.

im like getting about 14-15 miles per gallon, think I got a problem? its dropped down to about 12-14 now.

Do a search for the FPR. Do you get white smoke from the exhuast by any chance?

Actually, a bad FPR should result in black smoke. Black smoke is caused by too much fuel. White smoke is caused by water/coolant. Blue smoke by oil.

Thanks Ray , I am gonna look into that.

FWIW, two weeks ago my Ex was being serviced for an unrelated problem, and the first time I opened the hood after I got it back (to install a K&N FIPK), I see a sticker near the hood latch that the PCM was reprogrammed. Funny, even though I talked to them a few times while they had it, and my wife went to pick it up, he never mentioned it. I'd have to check my receipt, but I don't think they even charged me for it either. Go figure...
