2001 sport trac engine cooling system

2001 explorer sport trac

I recently got back from a trip and when I got home my sport trac started smoking real bad. I found that i had a coolant leak out of the top of the engine. I am not sure what the part is. It is black and shaped like a diamond would be the best description i could give. Does anyone have a clue what could be the part name? i am sure i could put it on if i knew what to buy at the local parts store. Thanks for any help.

Welcome To The Forum! The only thing I can think of possibly is the top of the thermostat housing maybe...but don't go by my guess, could you post a picture of the area so we can give you an accurate name?

if it looks something like this, this would be the thermostat housing leaking.

I have a 2001 sport trac that my wife was driving and it started to run hot. She brought it to the house and i found where the engine coolant and water was leaking from. It is coming out of the top of the motor area. I just dont know what the part is called so I can go get it replaced at the local parts store. It is black and looks like a diamond shape to me. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem part? I am not very savvy when it comes to engine repairs but I can do minor fixes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
