The rear end in my sport trac went out last week and its showing 42 which should be the 4:10.I am wanting to just swap out the whole rear end and the only one that's close to me is a 3:73 ratio, what all will be out of whack by changing the ratios?

Since your 2 wheel drive nothing. You will have less low end torque but better high end ans gas milage. If it was 4 wheel you could change do the transfer case diff and would throw of gearing and bind up.

Thanks mdrsho. Its a daily driver so I can deal with the lil better gas millage

You can pull a rearend out of a second Gen Explorer or Mountaineer and everthing bolts up. I would look for a disc brake rearend to upgrade the brakes from drums. I have a rearend out of a '99 Mounty because I bent the entire axle housing on mine enough to where I couldn't reuse it and just replace the gears and shafts.
