Ok I'm stumped. A couple of weeks ago we had the O/D off flashing light of death come on, transmission slipping into third gear, famous transmission issue of the Explorer. Had the transmission rebuilt at Aamco and 2 days after the rebuild, I notice slipping into third gear, the OD Off light flashing again. Was told to stop, shut it down, start it again, and see what happens. I did that and it worked properly. Took it in to have them look at it, and they could not determine what caused it nor could recreate the problem. A few days later it slipped again. And then a 3rd time 2 days later. Now here's where it gets weird. Every time it happens, it's in the 2-3 shift at 25-30 mph and each time it's during a left turn. I can't for the life of me figure out why turning left would have anything to do with it but I'm not a big believer in coincidence either, especially when a car is involved. Now, took it back to Aamco again, they put another solenoid pack in it under warranty, and last night I had the same problem.

There is a fault code active on it for the EGR valve. They told me (and I'm having trouble believing this) that the EGR fault could be interfering with the computer control of the trans. I'm having a hard time buying that but maybe there's someone who knows better than me on that.

Any insight as to what my next step should be, other than replace the EGR and see what happens?

Thanks!

I had an EGR code and after I replaced the EGR valve the gas mileage increased, it accelerates smoother, and it shifts at the right places. I think some signal from the EGR affects the PCM which affects the shifting and the fuel/air mixture, like the PCM went into, "stupid" because of a missing input signal and now it works better in 3 different ways.

I can't swear to all these relationships, but that's what I observed.
