2002 Explorer Eddie Bauer
Hey guys, I just picked up my new truack loaded with everything except running boards. I didn't even think of them not being there until I found myself sliding off the edge of the seat to get out. I'd like to put the factory running boards on. Does anyone know of a place to pick them up for a good price? I looked at the accessories section of Ford.com and they didn't have running boards listed. Also, I did a search and found a WTB with no replies. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Site !

If you do a search you may find that most remove there's. If you plan on doing some Wheeling you may want to keep them off.

Also for the money that you would pay for a set of stock ones you would be better off with buying after market ones. (unless you luck out on E-Bay) You can get them in Black, Chrome, Stainless, or get them Black (Cheapest) and paint them White to match.

If you plan on Wheeling you may just want to invest in a nice set of Rock Sliders. They look really nice plus they will save your rocker panels. And as a added bonus you can use them as a jacking point.

Hope this helps & Again Welcome to the Best Explorer Site on the Net!!!!

I'd also like to give a warm welcome. It's the best Explorer site on the net.

To your question, Alto is pretty much on the dot but there're only a very small percentage of members here that owns a 2002 4-door Explorer so I really doubt you'll be able to find a pair of running boards for your Eddie Bauer.

He's also right on getting aftermarkets but they stick out way too much so whenever you get off, you'll rub your leg onto the dirty nerf bar especially after a rain storm.

What you can do is to drop Torrie an email at torrie@fordpartsnetwork.com and ask him how much a set of running boards cost. He works for Ford Parts Network and their parts are generally cheaper than what the dealer sells. I hope this helps and welcome!!!

i personally prefer oem equipment as much as possible.

i just bought a 2002 xlt 4 door sport pakage.
it has tube type running boards. they are much sturdier feeling than the other choice [flat ones]

is it too late to ask the dealer for a little help?

check with torrie at www.fordpartsnetwork.com
they usually can beat a dealership parts dept.

welcome

PCTorque,

I also have a 2002 EB. Just got it two weeks ago!!! TrueBlue Metallic, V8, Trailer PKG/3.73s, side curtain, Moonroof, NO Third Row Seat!!! So far I am really loving it... gets much better gas mileage then my 99 EB Expedition and the acceleration from the 4.6 is awesome! (especially compared to that big heavy Expy).

My question for you:

I thought the EB Exploder had running boards stock from the factory. How is it possible that yours were not on there? Where they possibly removed by the dealer? I did not even see on the options where they could be deleted or changed on a EB????

Just curious,

I agree, I think the sport package tube style running boards are alot better looking than the flat running boards.

That's what I was wondering also, if E.B. were all supposed to have them. I can't believe I didn't notice until the next day there were no running boards.

BTW, I was considering a loaded blue one they had on the lot, but when I looked at it some punk punched holes in the leather drivers seat with an ink pen about 30 times (brand new).

edit I looked it up and finally the 3rd site had it listed as an option for $336.

I wanted to put OEM boards on my 96 a few years ago. If you call your local salvage yard, you maybe able to find a similar Explorer that has been totaled by a hit to either the direct rear or a recovered theft that was torn up. That's what I did, and I found the same X that I have but the driver had wrapped himself around a telephone pole. Perfect dead-center hit to the front, so the running boards were clean. They are not parts that salvage yards usually get requests for, so they are willing to take what they can get for them, just to make some cash. I got the pair for $100. Just make sure that you get the bolts as well, b/c they are a strange size if I remember correctly. Only takes a short time to slap them on.

Dude, I have a 02 XLT and want to take my running boards off. I just put larger tires on it and it gave me at least an 1.5" higher, but I still want to take them off. But I am 25 and don't mind getting in and out.
MY folks and In-laws are coming out to visit in a couple of months so I am going to leave them on for them.
My 02 Ranger requires me to tip toe out, and I plan on doing a 1.5" torsion bar adj. and add larger tires soon to it. Each his own.

I love my new 02, I think they ride great and handle better than the old ones. Once I get those running boards off, I will try some mild wheeling, I do mean mild.

Hey PCTorque,

I checked with my local dealer today (not the one I purchased from...) and inquired about 02 EBs and running boards.

I asked if I could order one without, or if there was anyway they could be configured without. After looking in the book... they sure thought the only way it would be optional, would be with an XLT loaded out, then you can delete or add the boards. You can also add the rocker panel secondary color like the EB etc.

Sooo... seems to me unless I am misinformed (which is entirely possible)... that Ford Owe's you a set of Running boards if that is indeed a 02 EB.

Question... is that an actual 02 or a 2002 1/2?? What was the build date on it? Their were a few changes from 02 to 02.5 ie the Trueblue Clearcoat, AdvanceTrac and some other stuff. I am wondering if the running boards could still be deleted on a true 02? (before the 02.5 changeover).
