2002 Explorer Sport

I just purchased a 2002 Explorer Sport for 7900. It has 80,000 miles on it 4x4 and the v6 engine. I just found this site and read all of the awful things about the 2002's. Did I just buy a lemon ride, I really hope that not all 2002's have such horrible issues.

The 2001-2003 Sports (2dr) are still based on the '95-'01 4dr platform that's why we put them in the 2nd gen '95-'01 section. All of the bad things you've heard about the '02s is about the '02 4drs which is a totally different vehicle and was the first year of that design. So you didn't get a lemon you got a very mature vehicle.

I bought a 2002 Explorer Sport brand new. I loved that truck. At 37,000 it was rear ended hard and was totaled. I was really disappointed. The Ex was 2 years old and Ford had discontinued it the year before. My only choices were to by a new 4 door model or a used 2003 model. Loving the 2 doors so much I bought a year old 2003 Explorer Sport. Drove that baby for 200,000 and ten years. Besides a few ball joints it was pretty much trouble free. Figured I was puushing my luck so I traded it in for a new 2014 Ex.
