I installed a new deck and speakers about two years ago in my 2002 Explorer. A couple of months ago, my daughter who sits in the back seat said her speaker was crackling. After doing a quick test, I found that there is no sound coming out of it, but a little crackling and also the other rear speaker was not working at all. Due to the cold weather, I have delayed this project. Should I start at taking out the deck and looking at it, or should I check the wiring in the doors? I am leaning towards checking the wiring in the doors.

I have experienced the same issue with the driver's side rear in my '04. I took the door panel off and checked the wiring at the speaker. For some reason, there was a problem with the connection. A little fiddling around with it and some dielectric grease fixed it.

Wiring
Last week I installed a second amp in my truck, when I pulled on the right rear speaker wire to hook it up I pulled a bit too hard and got the crackling with no sound, I had to re-wire and now it's working fine again, it was a good thing I messed it up, it gave me an excuse to get better wire, I think my buddy gave me 16 or 14 gage wire instead of the crappy one I had hehehe

Took the speakers out and found that the problem is with the stock wiring. I can't believe Ford uses such cheap wire. I didn't have much time to fix it properly but they are working. Is there a way to free up the main wiring harness so I can get it out of the door to work on it?

my back speakers were totally disentegrated when i bought my 92
