Well, not really Philly but about 20 minutes, Royersford, PA.

I've had a 2002 XLT for about 2 months now and just stumbled across your site because I just couldn't leave stock alone.

I used to own a '94 Jeep Wrangler, 33x12.5x15 BFG AT's, and 4" Skyjacker lift but had to sell her. Needed more room for a new family member!

So, can anyone recommend any starter mods for me that are available? Performance, exterior, audio, whatever...

Planning on putting up a pic soon once I get her cleaned up in case anyone hasn't seen the new body style yet.

Thanks and looking forward to owning this XLT!

Welcome to the site. There is a lot of info here on modifying your Explorer, and therefore emptying your wallet. If you're interested, we're working on starting a PA explorer's club called PennEx. Use the search function at the top, and you'll find more info on it.

BTW, I grew up in Malvern, my wife is from Lansdale, and my Dad now lives in Fort Washington.

Welcome!!

Looking forward to spending some money on the XLT. If you didn't already know, JEEP meant Just Empty Every Pocket!

I did the search on PennEx and read a few threads.

Who's running with it? Organizing it?

Excellent! I work in Malvern for the Vanguard Group and first worked out in Fort Washington with GE Financial Assurance when I moved out here a little over a year ago.

I'm not a local boy but originally from Colorado!

Myself and Adamckach have been trying to get it organized, but so far we haven't been able to get a group together to kick things off. We're probably looking at either later this month, or early next month for the next try. If you're interested, e-mail me your info (name, address, phone) and I'll add you to the database.

I would start on the intake, then go with a dual chamber flowmaster, with 4" echo tips. Afterward, replace the computerchip.

Simple, cheap, and you'll notice a difference.

Thanks SinOfFear! Can you recommend any web sites to checkout or magazines to look for with the upgrades? Sounds like a sweet plan....

try a search for "kkm" or k&n" and "flowmaster" or any kind of exhaust you want, and then "superchip."

kkm and k&n make the air intake kits, kkm is much cheaper (~$90) and is a great mod.

flowmaster is exhaust, obviously :)

and superchip is a very popular chip that a lot of guys run, including myself. you could try "hypertech" chips, a lot of guys run them too. keep in mind with a chip, you need to run 93 octane gas.

just do a little research, youll find a ton.

good luck and welcome to the site - hope to see you a PennEx meet (if we ever have one :) )

You cant go wrong with a nice audio setup. Some Pioneer 6x8's? two 12's maybe? a couple of amps? Have fun!

The '02 Explorers have a totally different engine computer than previous models, I doubt that one is made for that computer as of yet.

true

That is true, the chip isn't probably out yet, however, you can go to any muffler shop and they wouyld be happy to do it. It'll probably cost ya anywhere from 200-400, depending on the size and type of tip. With the echo tips, it'll run ya closer to the upper 300's. You should get these tips if you are looking for a little better sound from the exaust. And a dual chamber flowmaster muffler would be the best.

For audio, I would recommnd pioneer, clarion or kenwoood. I have experienced many decks, and I promise you,

a) There is a reason they call them the sony xplod. Stick to TV's with this brand.

b) Alpine always craps out after about 6 months.

c) JVC just doesn't have the power.

d) Anything else is just a waste of money.

also, get rid of those paper speakers in the door.

Ya, so far on my Sport Trac, I've done exhaust and am gettin audio done in two days.

Def go for some flowmaster action! Gotta love it. I was thinkin about gettin a KKN or K&N myself, and have heard lots of good things about them, so go for one of those too!

and Audio, def. improve audio.

are the speakers in the 2001 sport trac made out of paper too? Cuz I get great sound and maaaaaad bass out of those speakers if i want to, i'm completely satisfied with them....

I am sure they are

If you don't get a "specially installed sound system" i.e. like the infinity system on the Jeep Grand Cherokee's, they are usually paper. My explorer's system sounded nice when i first got it. And aout 4 months later, I bew a speaker. They sound decent, but are really cheap. I would recomend pioneer premier speakers.

Lift that thing 2002
C'mon, be the first guy to be able to take 7 adults wheelin in an Explorer
It would be the beginning of a whole new era if you customized a lift for the independent rear end

Welcome to the site

I'm not sure what modifications are out there for the 02's yet.... I'm not sure what you want to do with your Explorer.... do you want to lift it? or is it going to be your family truck? My guess is that you would probably find more on audio and exhaust items first. Most of the time the suspension items aren't available right away...

Good luck with it and hope to see you on Pennex

Karol
