2003 Mountaineer Trans Code

I have an '03 Mountaineer 4.6L/AWD. Drivers door sticker indicates trans code 'V'. Anyone know which transmission this is? Thanks

Okay, how about this; The 2003 Explorers and Mountaineers are equipped with a five speed automatic transmission. There are two engines available; the 4.0 SOHC V6 and the 4.6 SOHC V8. Does anyone know which transmission is installed behind the 4.6 V8?

The transmission is either the 5R55E or a version of that transmission. I don't know the exact name of it though.

I don't believe that it's the 5R55E. That's lighter duty unit behind the V6 engines in the Rangers and earlier (through 2001) Explorers.

Your tranny is the 5R55W.

Any idea what the 'W' means? Or the 'S' in 5R55S?

Not really sure what the W stands for. I know on the 4R70W is means "wide", interms of the gearing of the tranny. Not reall sure what it means on the newer model.
