I had also looked into this and went to my local truck accessories dealer and found only the westin safari bar without the skid plate. I agree the one with the skid plate looks better. I had decided to get my friend to make one for me but if you want that look it might be easy to just buy the safari bar and get a machine shop to make a skid plate for you - you could then cutomize it the way you want.

I've got the bar without the skidplate: black on gold X. I like it a lot without the skidplate. I would say it looks better on X's/rangers without the skid plate as our vehicles just aren't big enough to accomodate it and it'd look out of place. Very simple install: loosen your tow hooks, slide in the mounting brackets, 2 bolts to hold the bar on, tighten tow hook bolts. I have yet to put on some lights, but there is a lot of room for some pretty big lights.

What color is your 04?

personally i think bull bars are GHEY!!!!! they serve no purpose other than to empty your wallet... they offer no front end protection, and most of the chrome warranties or whatever suck.... i personally wouldnt want another part on my truck to rust thats going to be expensive and not do anything other than give me a place to mount a pair of lights.....

So does that make every aesthetic part ghey? Like bigger chrome wheels, exhaust tips, pin stripes, window tint, leather seats, running boards/nerf bars, etc are completely ghey?

Jim, thanks for your utterly useless post. This guy wants something to mke his X 'look' better and all you have to offer is a negative opinion.

Am with Jim on this one, they serve no purpose, go wack a tree with your bullbar, the damage the bar will transfer to your front end, is major.
Whatever turns your crank tho:)

If you're looking at that WAAG guard you might as well jsut go with a full brushguard but as you said, it was a little much. I personally tihnk the bullbars look nice but they seem more cosmetic then actually protection. But they look nice.

It's all up to you, but I think it looks like the front end of a police explorer.
