Hi to all.
I posted this in the wrong forum the one seems to be appropriate. Hope thats not a problem.
I’m new to this web site but it looks like there is a wealth of knowledge from very well informed people. I’m sure this site can solve my problem. Well I should introduce my explorer it’s a 2004 NBX 4.6 litter with 71k on the suv. It has a 5R55s transmission with 3.73 gears, control track and advance track 4x4. This my first Ford I have own in a long time and our relationship hasn't started out well. I bought the suv a week ago from a guy that said there was no problems and it was good car. He lied, the transmission stared act up one day after I got home. When I call him to ask him about his statement you bought it’s yours and hung-up. I don’t have money to take it to a shop so I must do it myself.
What I know/done so far (no codes)
1. When I came to a stop the truck would die just like you didn’t push the clutch in on a standard.
I think the torque converter didn’t unlock
It wasn’t consistent sometimes it work fine like when I test drove it
The torque will achieve lockup and shift normally.
2. I was told to do a valve solenoid replacement and tranflush with filter (5/18)
I did that it helped a little the torque converter wouldn’t stall the SUV but would make it jerky while stopping but not consistent sometimes it work fine.)
The pan was fairly clean no chunks just a fine film of black and some black stuff on the magnet(looked like graphite).
3. New problem just starting today( 5/20)
A sound similar to two metal plates rubbing together while in reverse or drive (very audible).
When your speed reaches >2 miles per hour the noise goes away and returns as the speed decrees. The sound fades away rather than just stops. No noise in neutral or park. The noise will intensifies if I apply the brake and throttle at the same time not letting the SUV move. When the noise fades it sound like something is synchronizing to the same speed.
The torque converter seems to lockup normal at higher speeds.
I think it is a converter I just need to speed money on parts wisely. I hope someone can help. I sure this is old problem and links form the site on old post would be very helpful. Thanks
