I have been working on a v8 5.0 swap on my 05 st . Motor and trans are in ! Most of the wiring is done ( after 50 hrs )Engine spins and fires with the key like its suppose to . The problem is , my fuel pump won't come on . After several days of tracing / chasing wires and dropping the tank I know I'm getting fire too the pump with the key on but I am not getting a ground signal .. If I ground the pump it will work . Does anyone have a idea why I'm losing my ground ?

What year Explorer is the motor and transmission out of? Did you have PATS turned off in the tune, or transfer the PATS components and key from the Explorer to the Sport Trac? I know PATS B had something to do with shutting off fuel supply to the motor, where as PATS E would cut power to the starter.

I have a tuner , pats has been turned off , I get power too my pump but no ground . If I run me a ground jumper wire over too the frame the pump comes on with the key

I would have to look at the wiring diagrams for the 05 Trac, all you changed was the wiring under the hood for the 5.0 right? What year Explorer was the 5.0 from, it helps when looking at the C110 and C115 connectors.

It was a 99 explorer . I traced my wires from the pump too some type of relay at back of tank jst above the rearend . My hot and ground both go into this thing , it only has one plug on it . Could it be a emissions canister ? Jst guessing ..thanks for your help

I can try and look it up, but if you go to autozone's website and sign up, you can get free wiring diagrams and component views that cover your truck, and the explorer as well. You just sign in then go to repair section and wiring diagrams.

I don't know maybe this will help, it's a diagram.

You may have a wire mismatch between your Trac's 42 pin connector C110, and the Explorer's C115 connector.

Thanks for the diagram , I bypassed the canister that I was talking about and grounded to my frame and she cranked .

It cranked over, but did it start?

That's good, any pics of the V8 swap?

What you have done is bypassed the ECU's control of the pump. Whenever you have the key "ON" the pump will be running, regardless if the car is running or not and regardless if you were just in a bad accident, the fuel pump will continue to run.

This is a dangerous situation and needs to be corrected.

I agree with you crispins. It's only temporary until I can figure out a solution . You have any ideas?

Glad to hear it, I understand doing things just to get something running.

I just wanted to point out that what you have is dangerous which it seems you understand.

As for ideas, nothing other than what you already know, just look at the diagrams and trace / test the circuits to find the fault.

Good luck to you!

It still has the safety cutoff switch in-line but I hope I can figure out this canister thing .

I really need a pin out list like this for a c110 plug .. Getting really close !

Question about my 05 ST , can't get my fuel pump too work unless I run a jumper ground too the frame ... Any ideas?

I have looked over the wiring diagrams many times, on your Trac your fuel pump is driven by the fuel pump driver module. The fuel pump ground is Red/Black, but the fuel pump driver module grounds it, through its own ground which is Black. The fuel pump driver module has 2 wires, a Light Blue/Orange, and a Dark Green/Yellow which go to the PCM through connector C110/C115, but they are both in the same connector socket so there should be no mismatch there on either side. The fuel pump driver module also has a White wire that goes to the fuel inertia cut off switch, and from the fuel inertia cut off switch there is a Orange/Light Green wire that goes to the fuel pump relay.

If it start and ran before the swap, but now doesn't, it still sounds kind of like a Pats issue. The Explorer Pats B cuts fuel to the engine to disable it, your original Trac's Pats E cut power to the starter to disable it.

If it's not that then possibly the fuel pump driver module is being disabled by the fuel inertia cut off switch. The 5.0 PCM controls the fuel pump relay which leads to the fuel inertia cut off switch which goes to you fuel pump driver module, that goes to your fuel pump.
