I was leaving the park with my family after a picnic this evening and when I started it up I heard the loud rattle, clicking sound in the linked video. At first it sounded like something was stuck in the fan. After looking around, I think the sound was coming from the coil area on top of the engine.
First time hearing this sound. I was able to drive it home (about 5 miles) and it made the sound the whole way. At the stop lights it acted like it might die on me. The Check engine light came on as well. I don't have a code reader to determine what the error codes might be.
I took a quick video to capture the sound. Any ideas what might be the cause?
Engine is a V6, 4.0L. about 152,000 miles.

For some reason the video is not there but first you need the codes. I am just guessing at this, you said rattling sound and dying engine that leads me to think its the timing chains. Don't drive the car until you get the codes especially if it is the timing chains.

Thanks. I might not have set the share settings properly. Here's another link:

This is the same sound coming front the front driver side of my engine last month. Turns out the passenger side rear timing chain/cassette failed. Debris was all thru the engine. I elected to replace the engine with a lower milage one (also replaced all four chains). I agree with Rcflyer, do not drive the vehicle, you probably will become stranded.

Codes: P0340 Camshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction
P0451 PCM detected malfunction pressure sensor circuit of EVAP system purge control valve/solenoid
P0528 Generic fan speed circuit sensor
P0620 Generic alternator control circuit malfunction
P1000 Operator specific - Engine Control Computer has not completed emission system testing
P1336 Crankshaft position system validation not learned

I found this video:

I retrieved the following codes:
P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor) DTC severity 2 of 3
P1336 - Crankshaft/Camshaft Sensor Range/Performance

I'm guessing these have to do with the timing chain. Other than having it towed to a mechanic to get it looked at, can anyone else confirm?

@Skapr1, if you don't mind me asking, how much did the used engine cost you? I know it might be different where I am located, but at least I get an idea of what it might be.

Well, first of all you need to consider if your truck is worth installing another engine.. I paid $5k for the job which included towing, new engine wiring harness, water pump, thermostat and housing, oil/filter change, new spark plugs, rear main seal, gasket kit (intake manifold, exhaust manifold, oil pan, timing cover etc), injector o rings, serpentine belt, engine cooler sensor and complete timing chain set.
