I've had my 06 Limited in the for a stinking air conditioner 4 times now in less than 2 years. Everytime they run something through it, I dropped it off this time and told them I don't want it back until it doesn't stink anymore. It's been there since Wednesday morning and hadn't heard a thing about it so I dropped in today and the guy at the service desk got pissy and said it's hard to smell with all the air fresheners in the car.

Anyone else had problems with?

Might sound dumb but where do you park it? Is it outside or in a garage? and what is the smell like? We use to have an 88 grand marquise that started having a god awful smell coming out of the vents, It ended up being a dead chipmunk inside heater core air box. Somehow the thing got in there got trapped and died. Another possibility is that water is getting inside the vent system and gets stale and makes a nasty smell as well.

It's always parked in the garage and its been in the dealership 4 times for it, so you'd think they would check things out. This time it's been there for 4 days already and I have yet to hear anything from them. I think it's water getting trapped somewhere but they don't seem too concerned about it.

Been a week now and still haven't heard from them. I'm going to keep waiting until they call and I'll be emailing Ford as well. You'd think they'd at least call and give me an update when they've had it for a week. Horrible customer service.

Finally brokedown and called yesterday. They are going to try and take the blower out and inspect the heater core I guess. They were suppose to call yesterday afternoon and give me an update, still nothing. 10 days and counting and not one phone call from them to me.

Does it have a cabin filter? If so then that may have gotten wet or contaminated, which would smell of mildew. Good luck,

I'm not sure if it does or not, where is it located on the explorers.

Well, I finally got the explorer back after 10 days. They said they took things apart and sprayed with something, can't remember what it was called. PY-9 or something like that. On the ticket they had 5 Tech hours and it took 10 days for that. I haven't even been using the AC and it's already starting to smell again. Ridiculous.

Back in the shop yesterday for a smelly AC again and a new radio. Dealer says they can't smell anything, it's out of warranty in 700 miles. I'm done with Fords, too bad too because I love my Escape.

give you one word. 'cats'
they love to get on clean anything. they also like to sit on the valance at the base of the windshield and use it for a litter box every chance they can get. you can flush this area with vinigar and water solution or spray some 'OZIUM' in all the vents inside and out.

What kind of odor is it?

I assume the dealer checked for a clogged drain?

It is recommended you turn off the AC and run just the fan before parking to help dry out the coils and avoid mildew growth. Very hard to get rid of once it starts.

Can you describe the smell? i believe it probably is mildew as stated by some of the guys.
