I just heard from another thread that the 07's added a aux input jack for like an ipod next to the cigarette lighter. Is there anyway to add this to my 2006 I would use a addon instead but I have sirius and none of the addon adapters work with sirius installed

I'm interested in doing this as well. I'd much rather have the factory look and location than go with a PIE unit.

Me too... And maybe some 2007 interior door pulls.

This thread needs a bump, I too have an '06 EB with the standard 6-CD system, when I was recently in my friends 2008 rental Explorer, I saw that the head unit was essentially the same, but it also had a simple audio input jack. Can you simply order this jack setup and hook it directly up to the head unit? Or do I need to replace the head unit with one from an 07' up? I don't need fancy IPod integration or anything, just something to plug my generic MP3 player into, my old Ford used to have a tape deck that I could use a tape/cd player thing with to use my MP3 player, this one, no such luck!

I don't think it's that simple. I have an '07 F-150 which has the aux input jack on the top of the dash. The head units from it and my '06 Explorer are EXACTLY the same...even the part number is EXACTLY the same. I put aftermarket head units in both trucks. For the hell of it I took the Explorer's head unit and put it in my F-150. The aux audio input no longer worked. So, it would seem to me that just installing the aux jack and wiring would not work, unless you also replaced the head unit with an '07-up. Of course, all the wiring is bundled together into 2 harnesses and plugs, so it would be pretty messy, getting into the wiring aspect. You really are better off giving up like I did and getting a decent aftermarket head unit with an aux input, or getting something like a P.I.E. setup.

Usually the deck has to have the AUX button right under the phone button and the deck needs to be programed to use it. I got an extra one that uses it right next to me :)

Aux audio jack input

I added a PIE and an audio jack to my 05 Explorer and it rocked! I just drilled a small hole for the jack on the trim ring, looked pretty good. I also have the same type setup in my wifes 06 Explorer and my 06 Mountaineer. They sound really great.

Can you post the part # for the PIE adapter?
Do either of your 06 have factory nav?
Any pics of where you put the jack on the 06's?

Sorry for all the ?'s

The PIE are designed to work with certain radio type and year model as you have probably researched. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics and the stereos are 6 disc in dash units, no nav. On certain units when you install some of these aux inputs, it is possible you will lose certain oem features. There are hard wire inputs you can buy that go through the antenna inputs. This is actually what I used in my Mountaineer to keep my RSE controls in the stereo.

I found this model # on PIE.NET, but can't find out how much it costs, does anyone know?

MODEL PIE FRD04-AUX

Prices can vary, shop around. I paid less than $100.00 for mine
