Link just came up as "All Categories"
But, yes, the 2010 (gen 4) is a great choice.
I highly recommend it.

Six cylinder. I'd be somewhat cautious. Maybe purchase the extended warranty if they offer it.
Beautiful vehicle though.

Just as a comparison. I recently bought a 2010 EB with the 4.6. It had 68,000 miles on it when I got it, and had the extended warranty WHICH I USED big time. My Explorer needed a couple odds and ends, but nothing major. Same color as the one in the link, but mine has dual zone HVAC, Sunroof, audiophile speaker set up, and the chrome clad wheels. Couple added extras like Viper alarm with Smartstart which I love and a magnaflow catback.

I paid $14k for mine, and then $75 to transfer the extended warranty, which is good to 75k miles.

Things that have been fixed under warranty. New timing chains, guides, tensioners, etc. And a brand new transfer case. None of that stuff was bad when I got it. They replaced the timing parts due to a slight tick. And the transfer case broke after I got it. Lost 4-low due to a piece of the casing breaking off inside and causing havoc.

Im not sure I would pay $16k for that one since its missing a few options and its the 4.0, but it sure looks clean. If it doesnt have any issues, and everything works, it would certainly be a nice truck.

Just bought an Mercury Mountaineer with 58k miles 3 months ago that was 99% the same specifications (manual 3rd row) as this truck and only paid $13,700 out the door with a 5yr 50k mile warranty. The price seems a bit high but I know the Fords around here sell slightly higher priced than the Mercs.

Great looking SUV and I think its a great upgrade from the 97 model. I do agree with some of the others that the 16.4k buy it now price seems a tad high but I'm sure the buy it now price is always a bit high. I have nearly the same vehicle in a 2008 model and have really enjoyed it. Only repairs I have done so far are a radiator and thermostat housing and I'm about to tick over 100k.

I did notice that the explorer doesn't come with floor mats and only has 1 key. Just an FYI

I emailed them and he said it can go for in 15k range.

I didn't realise the post 2003 4l V6's had the timing system issues. I know my 97 is vulnerable but I thought they fixed it in 2002?

Yeah, it's amazing Ford kept using the SOHC till 2010, I wonder how much slower 4.0 OHV was in Exp's, I would always take reliability over few seconds in performance. Especially since the torque was probably close since both were 4.0.

I just watched a video on rebuliding the timing on those. I did not realize it had 3 chains and a jack shaft, and one casette in the rear ? That's insane.

I wonder if the escape uses the same v6. Wife is thinking of getting an escape.

I do not think so. Escape is using something small like 2.5 l inline 4. I believe Mustang and Ranger were the only other cars from Ford using those motors (and Range Rovers ?).
Escape and Edge are nice packages.

I've seen Escapes withV-6 badging. I'll have to find a good Escape forum and start researching. Wife won't go for a 4 cylinder.

If v6 then it was Duratec 3.0 in the older models.

Now, from Ford website:

Ford Escape offers three engines: The 2.5L with independent variable cam design (iVCT). The available 1.5L EcoBoost® iVCT, the most fuel-efficient Escape engine.* And for more punch at the pedal, the available 2.0L EcoBoost with twin-scroll turbocharger. Both EcoBoost engines feature fuel-saving and emissions-conscious Auto Start-Stop Technology.

I am pretty sure they did not use 4.0 SOHC

The Edge is a very good looking and capable vehicle.

I looked around. There were old ones with the 3L DOHC. I am a little surprised they didn't use the 4L SOHC though.
Imagine the added power of the old SOHCs...
