2017 Ford Int Utility
Hello, I need some help. I am the Chief of Police in a small city in Northwestern South Dakota. My agency recently purchased a 2017 Ford Interceptor Utility on November 14, 2016. It ran two days then wouldn't start when the installer tried to install the police equipment. He did finally get it running then he tried to start it 3 days later and again it wouldn't start. It was towed to a local ford dealer and now they cant figure out whats wrong with it. They have put in three new BCM's and tried to program the as built data in to all three and the BCM wont take it. They nor I know where to turn next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and they went through all of the installers stuff and unhooked and removed all of it and there are no signs he wired anything wrong or cut any wires. Please someone help!!!!!!!!

If they can't program the BCM there is a communications issue somewhere. Perhaps it is over their head and they need to contact Ford for further assistance or have another dealer look at it. Trying to figure out the specific issue over a forum likely won't happen in this case....unfortunately.

Precisely what Jason said -- they should be calling Ford Hotline for level 2/engineering support on such an issue.

We would want to see more diagnostic codes here to help.

It's low tech, but I would check grounds. The BCM is located up under the left side of the dash where your left foot would be. If you pull off the plastic panels for the door trim near that area, behind the carpet near the base of the door, nearish the parking brake, there is a ground there. Make sure that is tight. I've done my own modifications on my vehicle and that ground has given me problems from my own negligence.

If there is upfitting equipment sharing that ground, have the installer move it to a new ground instead. That is not a ground that needs to be tampered with.
