Does anyone know if the 2017 FPIU will accept an LED for the low beam?
I know I tried to put LED in my F-150 but the lens didn't work out for it and it really was a hazard to oncoming traffic.

It already is LED/Projection. I believe it's Explorer specific, though.

I know that the high beam is I just wasn't sure about the low beam.
Thanks! I'll give it a shot!

Your 2017 PIU has LED for high beams?! My 2018 has halogen for the high beams and LED for the low beam.

2016 and later have LED low beams...halogen high beams. Switched to the halogens in '16 in part so wigwags would work.
My OCD doesn't like it as the lighting is at a different color temperature. The "colder" low beams and the "warmer" high beams. I work in video and color temp is important.

Oops! That is what I meant!
Low beam is LED and High beam is halogen! My bad! Thanks for that clarification.
OK With that in mind can I put the LED in and remove the halogen?

The high beam is a standard 9005...there has to be an LED replacement available. I can't speak to the legality of durability of the aftermarket LEDs. I'd keep a high quality halogen in mine.

FYI the bulb specs are in the manual...

If it is a regular bulb it has already been turned into an LED on this vehicle and that is why I asked about the halogen because that is the last one to be changed

Keep in mind that the high beam housing was not designed for LED bulbs and the focus will not be as precise.

So... then it WILL be just like the F-150
OK So who makes a better halogen? The one in there is really blah!

It has been a long time since I used PIAA Extreme White but did like them although lifespan was a bit of an issue.
The following threads may or may not be helpful. FYI, I didn't change the hi beams on my 2017 Platinum and left them as Halogen.
