2017 police utility, turb
Hey everyone. I have a 2017 police interceptor utility and I'm trying to install a subwoofer, Blaupunkt flat subwoofer that is compact under the seat. I finally got the power wire ran thru the grommet at the fire wall and ran all the wiring under the carpet but my question is, I have no rca at the head and I have the option to tap into the rear speakers but what part does the existing amp play in the grand scheme. I have fuses on the power line and the actual subwoofer, is thar all I need or do I have to get the line convertor. Pretty newb to the process, but I can follow instructions I've already replaced the front speakers with after market alpine and they sound pretty good, just not near loud enough. I'm hoping the sub helps there. Any tips or found tricks to make the rest of the install goes smoothly? Thanks in advance!

What model sub? A quick look I assume a GTHS of some sort. If so it appears to have RCA and high level inputs. If you are looking to avoid a line converter to get low inputs (RCA) then it should have came with a wiring pig tail for the high level inputs to tap the speakers. If you go that route I suggest you tap the front speakers and not the rear, the front speakers get a full range signal from the factory head unit. There is a noticeable difference if you tap the rear speakers they do not receive a full range signal and have significant drop off as the volume is increased.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thank you so much for your response and to whom ever moved this to the correct forum. I would rather tap the front and I do have a pigtail with existing speaker wire already attached. That just made my day. I did t want to dig out the rear ones, the front and I are already acquainted. Thankfully! Also, anything to do with the existing amp tucked away, ever so not easy to access? I'd rather avoid that guy. The sub came with a remote as well ..I included pics. Anything I should avoid when tapping the front? I am assuming I can just run the wires since the front are already after market. Just connect to the existing wires as I did to install them to the factory speaker mounting bracket in the door. I kept the OG speaker mount with the harness plug. I just sawed the brackets off the back and installed dampening background and speaker protection to the OG Ford mounting brackets.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "existing amp" The police interceptor shouldn't have one. Is it an aftermarket amp a previous owner installed?

Ryan,

Thanks for the response. Its a Blapunkt subwoofer Super Flat Active Subwoofer GTHS-80pro 320 watts - I have a convertor attached to the adaptor I bought for the back of the head unit that includes the rca cable plug in on the adapter to the head unit. I have no idea where the plug is on the head unit, and did not want to take the dash apart. The carpet and console are easy to pull up or take off and I was wondering if I even have to do all that... what is the best way to install this sub? I would like to use the factory plug and adapter that I purchased, but I am just not sure the best way to do this and hesitate to remove the dash since things dont like to go back on the way they came off. I already replaced the front speakers myself with 2 alpine 6x9 2 way and they bump, but how is this going to tie in to the sub if I tap the front speakers? Would this be better? Not totally incompetent here, but really not my area of expertise. I don't want to go to a stereo shop bc every time I bring my truck to someone, it comes back with a new issue or ding or scratch. My dad bought me this truck when he was going thru radiation treatment, and I am very attached to it. I do not want anyone touching it unless they have to. I can turn a wrench and work as a service writer for a mobile mechanic company, have my ASE, just know little about stereos, they dont really cover that in class. :) Thanks for the help.

everything I have read says its amplified and it is in the back upper compartment. I cannot confirm bc I have not gotten back there as of yet. I really dont want to. I just want a little more UMPH in my system, I dont want to beat the windows out, but that may happen in the process of trying to install this dang sub! lol here is the adaptor i purchased that is supposed to merge the head unit and the sub - I do not have an amp

Hey, no problem. Hopefully I can be of some help here. So, it sounds to me like you are using the term "amplifier" to describe the factory ACM (Audio control module) which is in fact amplified but isn't what I would refer to as an amplifier in the sense of modified car audio.

Looking at the picture you provided it looks like you have a harness that adds RCA Low level inputs and an add-a-fuse for the subwoofers remote turn on.

Don't be discouraged by removing the radio, it's really easy in the explorer. Check out this video (all credit to its creator) beginning up to about 2:20. The silver unit on the bottom with the CD player is the one you will remove via the (4) 7mm bolts. Unplug the harness on the back of the ACM and plug in your adapter in-line.

Run Your RCA wires from behind the ACM to where you plan to mount the subwoofer. The blue wire is going to be your remote turn on for the amplifier you'll want to run that from the subwoofers location and connect it with the supplied add-a-fuse to a fuse that get Key-on power. Then of course run your power and ground wires to the subwoofer/amp.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
