2020 Explorer brake issue

Post number 113 has been selected as best answered.

The vehicle hasn't moved on me yet, but I've started noticing the pedal being hard and what feels and sounds like the ABS valves fluttering when starting the vehicle.

Has anyone experienced that?

Yeah, that's normal.

@asc325is

Just sayin' -It's your brakes - if this takes a day to get settled, wouldn't that be worth piece of mind?

You might want to visit your dealer's service department and get condition noted this down on paper - as "insurance".

FORD built the vehicle, let them tell you if it's normal or abnormal.

If FORD Service claims your brakes are "normal", then they shouldn't have any problem writing up a service note, stating what your complaint is, and how they feel it's "normal", and providing you with a paper copy - right?

Also, while you're there, it wouldn't hurt to sit in another XLT that's sitting on the lot and compare notes.

Checking in; I've had this happen to me 3 times since January 2020. Put car in drive or reverse, and it starts to move even though I have my food on the brake. Brake feels hard and pumping the brake doesn't stop the vehicle, only putting back in park stops it.

Have you reported it to the NHTSA as suggested in this thread? The more reports the better.

Just got off the phone with my friend who has a 2020 Aviator, and they have theirs in the shop for a brake issue the dealer said they never heard of.... His is similar ish

Get in, put foot on brake, push start car and immediately go to R. Sometimes the pedal goes to the floor and only brakes if you push hard all the way down, sometimes it is normal. He didn't say theirs did the rolling thing, but I think they are usually on flat ground. A restart of the vehicle seems to fix the issue.

I did not. He is not a forum person, and is the type that "let the dealer" figure it out...I will pass it on though.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I park in my garage and always back out and so far no issues with the brakes.

Everyone, this is a widespread issue and you MUST report it to the NHTSA | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration site so they can force Ford/Lincoln to roll out a fix ASAP!!!! You would not only be doing yourself a good deed but you may help others and save a life, or at least property damages. They already have a couple of the issues listed (2020 LINCOLN AVIATOR SUV 4WD) but that's not enough!!! PLEASE, report the issue if you are having it so they can investigate it ASAP!! Report here: File a Vehicle Safety Complaint | Safercar.gov | NHTSA

I left a complaint and detailed description of my experiences.

My explorer is in the shop for the third time now. 10,000 miles on it. Doing the same thing not stopping while in reverse. The second time it was in the shop the dealer replaced all components with the brakes that could cause this and now it is doing it again. I will not put my family back in a car that won’t stop. We are currently dealing with ford for a buy back. I will let y’all know what they say

Welcome to the Forum Logan.
Please make sure you fill out the form for the NHTSA.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This is scary. I'm at 12K miles, and don't think I've experienced this, but still. Stopping is kinda important.

16,000 and almost 1 year old now and haven't experienced it. Only issue is going into reverse too quick upon startup and it jolts a little but if I wait a couple seconds, everything is normal.

Being electronically controlled, I wonder if this is a programming issue and not a defective part.

WOW. that's a lot of complaints. Only thing now that is concerning is that there are no investigations into the issue yet. I would hate to see anyone get hurt for them to take action. AHHHH, FORD, you remember Firestone don't ya!?!??!?!?!?!?

I should update for my friend with the navigator. The day they brought it in for the brake issue, the dealer had never heard of it. The next day or day after, they received a TSB from Ford to do a software update. And now have the vehicle back.
