I understand that the EVAP Purge Valve (GL3Z-9B325-B) is not covered after the bumper to bumper warranty or within ESP or Emmissions Warranty. Has anyone had one replaced at the dealer? How long did it take, did it solve the problem and what was the cost? The OEM part from Ford can be ordered for less than $100 but looks like a few connectors are very difficult to get too. No problems other than the check engine light that I can tell. I think this is only emmissions related.

SSM 50306 was issued for Illuminated MIL With DTC P0496, P0456, P0455, P04F0 And/Or P0451
for 2020-2022 Explorer U625. The SSM indicated many replaced valves have been inspected and found to be working and prior to replacement should be smoke tested.

Seems like it should be covered by the emissions control warranty. Did the dealer say otherwise?

The warranty is parts specific for the vehicle. The dealer keys in the part number and it will show if it is covered by any warranty, recall or SSM. The service advisor tol me how that worked when they did my CAT recall and billed it to the emmissions warranty recall. I asked him what was considered an emmissions part and he said each model had it's own list of covered parts. He gave a for instance the purge valve was not covered because it was attached to a small hose assembly and hoses are not covered. Yes, just crazy, the purge valve should be covered IMO. I found this emmissions parts list that applies to my ST and the purge valve is not covered: https://www.fordservicecontent.com/...missions_Chart_version_8_ws_EN-US_01_2021.pdf

Yes, you would think so. No owner access to the warranty parts database that I can find.

It appears to be only covered under bumber to bumber. The part is only $100 but Ford adds $200 diag. and $400 labor.

Efficiency experts saving Ford money or just making more money from the owners. Making simple parts like a purge valve so hard to replace that it takes diag equipment and hours of a certified mechanic, not minutes of DIY to replace on modern vehicles.

DTC Code P0496 EVAP Purge Valve, also comes with this SSM 50306 from Ford.
Ford has tested returned EVAP canister purge valves and found them to be fully
functional. Prior to replacing the canister purge valve or other EVAP components, perform the
following tests using the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) Scan Tool: Full System EVAP
Leak Test - FDRS Location: TOOLBOX > PCM > PCM - Evap Emissions System Test and the EVAP
Purge Valve Leak Test - FDRS Location: TOOLBOX > PCM > Evap Emission System Toolbox >
CPV Check.
