97 Explorer Sport 4.0 OHV
I am looking for some fuel injectors for my 1997 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0L OHV.

I was under the impression it used 19lb injectors, but I enquired with a person that sells them and he looked it up and it said 21lb injectors.

What does this year and model use? Can I just use 21lb if it calls for 19lb anyways.

I am stock so far except for intake and will eventually add catback. That is about as far engine wise I am going for now.

Thanks

It should use 19#. If you get 21# you will need a recalibrated MAS.

i didnt even know they had a 21. usually it goes from 19 to 24... must be a V6 thing. and also, you can run the next size up injector without re-calibrating mass, or next size down, for that matter.

example- you could slap some 24#'s in a stock 5 liter X, and it will not throw a CEL and run fine. it wont run any better, but it will be OK.

Okay, thanks for the quick reply. I think he thought I had a 5.0 liter as his site lists 5.0L Explorer's with 21lb injectors.

Could somebody be kind enough to tell me which 19lb injectors from this site I need. I only need 6. Are there better kinds?

didn't see any for the 4.0 listed there.

Why do you need 6 injectors? The 19# injectors are good up to 200 and something horsepower I believe.
The fuel pump and MAS sensor would need to be upgraded to get any real gains from them anyways.

A stock OHV 4.0L uses 19# injectors.

Are you having a fuel problem????
I have never had a problem with any factory fuel injectors in my Ford, 1st set went to 180,000 miles this set has gone 160, no problems. Rarely have I ever seen a OHV with injectors failing, they can get dirty and be flushed. The 19# jets in my truck provide plenty of fuel even with all my intake and exhaust mods...I will be going to the next size with this new engine......

I would buy FMS injectors if you are going to replace them....

I'm still running stock 19# injectors also, even with the rest of the fuel system upgraded. The motor still gets plenty of fuel. I may upgrade eventually though.

I purchased the explorer 2 months ago. It didn't have lots of horsepower so I brought it to get a tuneup. They did a test and 4/6 injectors were 100 and the other two were 73/100 and 78/100.

They claimed that they needed to be replaced as they were faulty.

I thought why not just replace all 6. It is only about $150 for 6 and I can do it over a weekend.

If they just need to be cleaned I can do that, but they claimed they were faulty and one was cracked :(

Do I believe that?

cracked? I have seen Nissan and Honda injectors with cracked cases, but not sure about the Ford's...

You are right it is not hard to check them at all, remove the upper intake plenum with a 10mm socket, its not to hard, then the fuel rail is right there. Be careful with the wire connectors, they are fragile and you dont want to break the clips :)

Use vasaline to re-seat the injectors and o rings or motor oil....

Can anybody else help me? Has anybody heard of injectors that flow 73/100 and 78/100 that just need a cleaning. They are only functioning about 75% of what they should and in turn it feels like I have very little horsepower and my gase mileage is horrible.

Getting your injectors cleaned at most shops costs about $80. I'd recommend to just replace those 2, though it will probably be cheaper and easier just to get 6. Get the 19# injectors.
