22s??

Really mexi no rubbing at all with 265/40/22. And you have it on your 98 x. I'm going to have to look in to that.

what you going to drive to my house and see .........i aint gots to lie to kick it

I can't remember who said to get 275 tires but i do know i wouldn't recommend that.

My ride with 22's is fine, much better than i expected.

Also, 275 rubs. 265 doesn't. Holds true with my 1995 explorer AND my buddies 1999 explorer.

if you don't have 22s and haven't put them on your personal truck your just a hater if you rip on them.

if i were ever going to go back to chrome rims they would be 22" or bigger

the ride isn't that bad, and 20" just looks small. a 20" rim these days is so commonplace they make you look like youi didn't have the $ to spring for the real deal.

get the 22s and 285/35. do the trimming you need to make them fit. I love the way they look tucking the 285s on an explorer.

I've driven a 99 sport with that set-up a few times.

well said.

Yeh 22s are the way to go. I was thinking about 20s but there just too small. You got to go big. I should be putting on my 22s this friday just in time for homecoming! But I can fit 265/40/22 on my x with no mods and it won't rub or anything. Because more rubber the better so its a better ride and it will pertect the rims more. I still got time to cancel my order on the 265/35/22 Scorpions and get the 265/40/22 Proxes. Should I?

265/40 for sure among those choices

So, you feel that others can't have their own opinions?

yeah thats what i said  no but when someone says they want 22" and you get all the " 22" are ugly comments" that are not needed you dont see me and others with 22" going and ripping on the lifted guy do you? i think everyone is intitled to their opinion but he asked for tire size not if you or whoever like them. i just get tired when 22" are being consider all the bs said about them like they rub and usually said by people who have never run them and ride stock like they are and hate on them and when people show their trucks lifted with big tires and all "not what i would do to an X" but it still looks good and i give their props not say "hey big tires suck big wheels rule" i think they look good just like i think mine does

easy on the eye rolling you havent been here long enough to be a smartass your comment didnt go into lifted guys against street guys in fact this whole thread hasnt gone into that arena until you just brought it up and i won't go there either your comment was simply that if you dont have big wheels on your truck (being that your statement was a continuation of expo's statement that you quoted) you cant have/state an opinion about big wheels well that is just not so your second comment about this thread being the incorrect place to state that opinion is correct this thread is about what tire size not whether you like that size wheel or not but this is the tire and wheel forum not a sport truck forum so members are able to express their opinions openly about big wheels in a more suitable thread in this forum

*it is a pita to read with no punctuation isn't it?

But I won't debate the matter any further, and will let the thread try to get back on topic. I will even go as far as to say that I simply misunderstood your post, and simply asked a question as to what you meant. My mistake. :)

What I meant on what part? I didnt put street guys against lifted guys. I was just making a point that we all do different things to are X, and the point is that just cause its not what i would do doesnt make it ugly. Ill be the first to say that there are some nice ass lifted X's here. What are you an english teacher? Find something else to worry about. I guess i need 8000+ post to be a smartass huh? By the way, what is a "pita"? Hope my punctuation was correct. Ill work on my paragraph form later.

LMAO, Robb you're the man. Takin' care of business.

the point is- IF your going to get some chrome "bling bling" style wheels going smaller than 22" just makes you look like a wannabe.

no one is against smaller wheels (obviously not me) just pointing out the facts about how 20" wheels are perceived.

exactly im not hating on anyone. sport ,lifted, street they all have the look they are going for.you just need to pick the wheel that fit your look .and dont hate on the ones that dont have the same look as you. ill try to get back on topic now

my question is- is there a 22" combination where you could run the narrower wheel and tire up front and a wider combo in the rear somewhat similar ot what i do?

i just can't stand the look of narrow tires on the rear of a custom vehicle. would be really cool to run the 285/35/22s in the rear and some narrower (i'm not sure what all sizes are available) tires up front which would really help to make it drive well. I know in my experience its best to keep the front width to 265 or less, but 255 is my favorite by far. I ran 275s up front on my truck at one point and hated the feel when moving slowly etc. and the 285s on the 22s i've driven before were pretty frustrating as well.

I'd want a 255/45/22 up front and a 285/35/22 in the back

or ideally (if i ever decide to move up) i'd want to go to a skinnier 22 up front and a 305 width 24" in the back.

Expo, yeah the wider tires are pretty cool. I'll try to get a pic of my wheels from the back so you can see the width well. You can REALLY tell the difference.

As far as 285, in my opinion it sticks out of the wheel wells too much. On the other hand, i haven't seen 285's on an explorer, but my 265's stick out quite a bit. Anyway, good idea with 255 in front and 285 in back. (your truck is lookin good btw)

Mexi - Most of the people on this forum have been here for years and don't take lightly to people starting stuff like that. Just try to leave it alone or you'll find yourself wanting to leave the forum quickly. ITS LIKE AN ALLIANCE! Robb - layin the smack down!

Back to the original topic. If you can fit 265/40/22's on your truck then that would be the route to take. I can't fit them however.

Good luck, hope you like the finished product!
