28 or 31 spline ?

We have a 94 XL,2dr,4x4, It has an open 3.27 8.8 in the rear. I've been told that 94' Explorer's only came with the 31 spline, I hope this is true because I would like to install an ARB in the rear. Confirmation on this would be great before tearing into it! Thanks in advance!

I was under the impression that 4.10 rear ends had the 31 spline axles, not sure on the 3.73's though. My 8.8 from a '96 has a metal stamped tag on a diff cover bolt saying the ratio, yours may have the same?
Do you know how much $$ the ARB runs for the 8.8??

Yes, Explorers all came with 31-spline 8.8 axles. Rangers and some cars came with 28-spline versions.

Thanks Scott ! It's a done deal I'll pick up the ARB locker & compressor tomorrow. My Bronco has 35's & has many other capable off-road accry's so now I will be doing the same to this Explorer as it looks to be a very good off-road vehicle as well! Big Ed, retail runs around 650 dollars for the locker give or take plus the compressor which is 200 more, unless you already have on board air. I'll be looking & asking more questions later such as lift (Skyjacker6")and gears (4.56's?) too! Again thanks guys!
