Sorry guys, ended up having some surgery after I posted this and will be going back in for some more, so this will have to set on the back burner until I recover.
Just to let you know I've fitted HID H7 bulbs to my Mondeo (Contour) and have never looked back.
35 watt, 6000K - I asked for 4300K but they didn't have them.
They're great. I used 100watt halogens for high beam because HIDs take too long to warm up.
My BMW has 4 35 watt high low projectors and they work perfectly.
My Explorer has 55 watt 4300K H4 HIDs that work great.
In every case the lights are adjusted so as not to blind anyone but I still have a good light spread on low beam. I wouldn't put up with them otherwise.
And the first time I drove the Mondeo in heavy rain with the new lights I was amazed at the penetration. Also in fog.
I used these with Silverstars in all but the parking light (they didn't have them when I was looking). Been there for years, lots of compliments, super bright, and they really modernize the 2nd gen front end imho. Got them on ebay.
