2x4 vs Auto setting? can I convert it ?

I have a 2003 sport trac. It has settings for 2x4, 4 hi and 4 low. A previous explorer I owned had a "auto" setting (is this called Control Trac) I liked it for the traction it provided and it would run in AUTO all the time. Can My current x be converted? Why would I want a 2x4 setting in stead of the auto setting?

From what i understand, you have a "normal" transfercase. The control trac which you had previously was computer controled and had a clutch. The clutch could vary the amount of power to the front wheels therefore being able to have it on full time. The sport trac's transfercase will lock the front and back wheels together and cannot be used as full time. To get this auto setting you'd have to swap transfercases and computers and all of that stuff.

btw- i'm beginning to like control trac more and more
