my 2002 explorer takes what the manual says is a 9145 fog light bulb. are these some ******* bulb that ford has come up with?

does anyone have a picture?

i remember reading in a thread here there is a way to convert to a 9005 [maybe an 9006] for the foglights.

the person who posted this NEVER responded to the procedure.

does anyone out there know how to do this?

the 9145's aren't bad, i bet a 9005 would be a lot nicer.

any thoughts?

In my f-150 before I swapped out airdams, I installed PIAA 9005's in place of the stock 9145's and they fit fine. The 9005's are a bit deeper though and if your fog lights are different then mine then it may not work. There was no "conversion" required as they used the same plugs and everything.

My stock fogs said they took a 899 bulb. I replaced it with a 9005. It required me to file about half of one of the tabs off. The voltage was a little off but I haven't had any trouble yet. I put in SilverStars and there is a huge difference.

hey matt

do you think i could use 9006 bulbs?

i recently bought some silverstars [i know you are the piaa man] and have my original 9006, it would be pretty easy to just pop them in.

my lenses are glass so heat shouldn't be a problem.

thanks

xlt-sport, on the contrary, heat when introduced to glass and cold air will cuase cracking.....

fit is my major concern.

i think i should be fine. standard stock 55 watt.

i would rather have a glass lens than a plastic one where melting might be a problem.

I say go for it. buy some $4 9005 bulbs and see if they'll fit right before trying out your expensive bulbs...
