365hp 3.5 versus 400hp 3.0.
Why the smaller displacement?
I'm thinking this 3.0 will be more sensitive to fuel octane. Anyone know what improvements were made on the 3.0 over the 3.5 other than more boost? Ty.

Imo Ford is saving the 3.5 eb from the raptor @ 450hp for a future rendition of the explorer.

lol.

the new 3.0 Ecoboost is based on the 2.7L ecoboost - is a CGI block, smaller faster spinning turbos, runs a bit higher boost, uses less fuel.

All around wins. I love my 2.7L ecoboost so far. I would happily get the 3.0 - and it's not that new as it's been in the continental for a few years and something else. Just like the 3.5 before it - the power ratings are based on 91 octane. It's not any more sensitive than the other ecoboosts.

and for world wide or more importantly europe sales - this allows them to sell cars with the 3.0 and stay under a tax cap. Since they tax cars over there via engine displacement and total cost.

I suspect in a few years you will see the a new HO ecoboost that is based on the 3.0 but different displacement and different turbos.
